Set up by two die hard horror game fans, the aim of The Horror Game Awards is simple: to celebrate horror as one of the best genres in video games and to recognise the year’s greatest horror games alongside the developers who make them.

The Horror Game Awards was the brainchild of Phil Dickens and Will Penkeyman. Seeing that horror games weren’t getting recognition in other award shows at a time when the genre was seeing a resurgence in both popularity and quality, they decided that there was only one way to rectify the problem: do it themselves.
The awards started towards the end of 2022 as a Horror Game of the Year Award. Fourteen content creators made up that year’s jury. It was such a success that in 2023 the jury doubled in size and the awards expanded their scope.
They’re aided by Andy Cox, who brings his production skills to the group; Améliane Chiasson, who created the iconic logo and all our graphics; Nick (R.E.T.I.N.A), who brought the logo to life and made it bleed; and iconic horror writer, presenter and content creator Ash Millman.
